Heated by the radio...

The tropical hall, is within the old BBC radio transmitter hall. Over the years as technology improved, transmitters became smaller and smaller, until this area was no longer needed and became part of Tropiquaria zoo.

The rear of the building still houses the current transmitters and the waste heat from them is pumped into the hall to help heat it. Whilst we still need additional gas heating during the really cold days, this heat helps to keep our heating bills down.

So if you are in the area and are listening to BBC Radio Wales, TalkSport Radio or Absolute Radio, you will know that eqipment that is sending the radio waves to your car radio is helping us greatly.

Free Roaming Birds

All around the hall are dozens of free flying and free roaming birds, (and a few geckos)

From the Partridges on the floor, to the red underwinged turacos, you will see flashes of colour wherever you look.
